Role and Responsibilities:

Fairway Market wants to ensure that all of our customers are receiving the best experience each time they walk into our Cooking School. The Kitchen Assistant is an integral part of the Fairway Market experience; you will be providing exceptional customer service while assisting with proper daily class preparation and execution as directed by the Chef Instructor and/ or Sous Chef. The Kitchen Assistant will get firsthand experience working with the Chef Instructor and/or Sous Chef of Fairway Market. The following are role and responsibilities of the Kitchen Assistant position:


Department-specific Responsibilities:

????????? Perform all assigned duties as directed by the Chef Instructor and/ or Sous Chef

????????? Operate food service equipment according to specified directions ensuring compliance with all safety protocols

????????? Assist with proper daily class preparation and execution as directed by the Chef Instructor and/or Sous Chef

????????? Setting up workstations before classes and events

????????? Making preparations for next day?s classes and events

????????? Cleaning the equipment, floors and other kitchen tools and areas

????????? Sorting, storing and distributing ingredients

????????? Washing peeling, chopping, cutting food items

????????? Abide by the Health Department rules which apply to the kitchen area including assistance in maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen general work areas, refrigerators, walk- in, storeroom

General Responsibilities:

????????? Work collaboratively with fellow employees and managers and recognize teamwork and diversity throughout the office to resolve conflicts respectfully and in a timely manner.

????????? Maintain a strong time and attendance record to ensure the smooth flow of departmental operations

????????? Maintain a clean and safe work environment by practicing high standards of food and human safety and sanitation techniques provided by Fairway work rules and policies and Health Department Regulations

????????? Replenish department supplies frequently to ensure efficiency of workflow and employee job tasks

????????? Adhere to all department-related and company-related work rules and policies while upholding Fairway?s core values of integrity, respect and excellence

????????? Perform miscellaneous roles assigned by management that would help the team on an as-needed basis

????????? Recognize and seek opportunities for continuous learning and supply feedback to management to help improve operations

Skills and Qualifications:

Candidates who apply for the Kitchen Assistant position must possess the following skills:

????????? Basic Knife Skills

????????? ?Excellent organizational skills

????????? Great attention to detail

????????? Ability to work in a cramped, noisy, open kitchen environment

????????? Ability to prioritize tasks, multi-task, balance friendliness with efficiency, and maintain focus

????????? Effective communication skills and ability to read, write and comprehend English

????????? Must be at least 18 years of age to work in the department

????????? Meet physical demands required for the position.


Work Environment and Physical Demands:

????????? Frequent motions such as grabbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, and crouching in order to retrieve and/or replenish merchandise and/or cooking equipment

????????? Lifting up to 50lbs.

????????? Standing for 4-6 hours at a time without a break
